Today my brain is in Pensacola, Florida. Is there really only one Pensacola?
There seems to be recent hurricane data. Glad to see that. But, I’m identifying “gales” that damaged a dozen brigs, schooners and sloops at Pensacola in 1821. Another gale completely wrecked a ship in New York, and sunk another. Not sure if these were hurricanes.
Meanwhile the Schooner Enterprize was castaway on Cat Island. Not sure yet if this is the Cat Island, off the coast of Mississippi, or the one in the Bahamas.
The Sloop Montgomery was lost off Dauphin Island, Alabama, along with more than a dozen crew and passengers. Everything was lost including “a costly steam saw mill” on board, heading to Pensacola.
I have experienced a hurricane. I was living in Portland, Maine, when Hurricane Gloria did her thing. It was interesting to me, since I grew up on the prairie where we get tornadoes instead of hurricanes.
But, I’m not so interested in gales. I’m interested in the human experience, as it relates to watercraft. Because.
Somewhere someone was talking about creating large quantities of data. I forget who or where. I wish I could find that again. I need a container for all this information.
