About

This is another tool for tracking research while I recover from shoulder surgery–and then have the same surgery on my left arm. I’m not in pain. I’m just frustrated that working with one arm in a sling slows me down so much. But, this will pass. Today (June 12) is the first time I took a shower completely by myself, and then got dressed and did my hair. By myself. Since surgery on May 12.

Wonder what happened? I fell down. On concrete steps with no railing. I tried to catch myself with my hands and succeeded in shattering both shoulders, tearing both rotator cuffs and giving myself a concussion.

Following surgery, I participated in a Bounce Back program at a nursing home, for the first couple of weeks. That’s when I realized how many devices and OSes I have used to store my research. Dawned on me that I should perhaps have been using something web-based all along. But, it feels too late to convert everything.

I haven’t used WordPress in an Age, but it dawned on me that it could still be a useful tool. I’m not planning to sell anything on here. I don’t know if anyone else is researching boats, but you are welcome to post.

Why Boats

Because they exist.

Which Boats

I’m only interested in boats as far back as we can document, by name, and only boats that have at least touched America. I haven’t decided how current my research should be. I keep revising that deadline, but it will likely be around WWII, and mainly boats that were used to transport people or cargo. I’m not interested in pleasurecraft. Probably….

What About Boats?

I want to know what kind of boat each one was, who built her (boats are referred to in the feminine), and where she was built, who served as captain, what kind of cargo she carried, what routes she followed, any wrecks or other events unique to her, and her demise (when, how and where). How much did it cost to build her, and what was the amount of damage done to her, or how much did it cost to renovate her or to put an end to her.

Of course, it is a lot. But I’m loving every moment of this.

Who am I?

Just the person Behind the Curtain.
